After reorganizing in early 2024, the Florida Gay Rodeo Association (FGRA) is experiencing explosive growth and has proudly reclaimed its sanctioned status with the International Gay Rodeo Association — officially part of the gay rodeo family once again.

Our passionate, all-volunteer Board of Directors is working around the clock to create unforgettable events and fundraisers, all with one bold vision: bringing gay rodeo back to the Sunshine State. We’ve forged dynamic partnerships with businesses and organizations throughout the LGBTQI+ community and are actively identifying charitable causes that align with our mission of giving back.

While our signature events and celebrations have electrified the Tampa/St. Petersburg area, we’re not stopping there. We’re taking the rodeo on the road to every corner of Florida!

Our Journey So Far: Gay rodeo in Florida has deep roots. It all started in 1991, when Florida rodeo contestants and enthusiasts joined forces with others across the Southeast to found the Southeast Gay Rodeo Association (SEGRA). As the movement grew, so did the need for local identity. In 2005 SEGRA gave rise to three independent organizations, one of which was the Florida Gay Rodeo Association. FGRA hit the ground running, producing seven IGRA-sanctioned “Sunshine Stampede” rodeos from 2006 to 2012 and building a passionate community of competitors and fans. Though the association eventually went dormant, the spirit of Florida gay rodeo never disappeared.

A Rebirth: On August 1, 2024, the Florida Gay Rodeo Association was reborn as an official nonprofit, fueled by a new generation of members who refused to let the tradition fade. In less than two years, we’ve grown to 70+ members, hosted unforgettable events, championed charitable causes, and deepened our commitment to the LGBTQI+ community across Florida and beyond.

Do You Ride Alligators? In short, no! But we do ride horses, bulls and steers. IGRA rodeos usually have 13 electrifying events — from bull riding and barrel racing to breakaway roping and chute-dogging. Everything you love about classic rodeo, plus three one-of-a-kind “camp” events that add a playful, unforgettable twist you simply won’t find anywhere else. Come for the competition. Stay for the fun. This is rodeo like you’ve never experienced it.
